In practice, I specialize in working with individuals on a one on one basis. If you are seeking couples counselling, any of the other therapists on this site would be a good choice.
Most of my young life was spent on the far south coast of NSW, however, I have also lived near Canberra, in Sydney and on Norfolk Island. In1988 I moved with my husband and young family to the Central Coast and have lived here ever since.
Despite having initially trained as a radiographer, I wanted to find a career that was more relationship focussed. After trying several alternatives, I eventually took the plunge and enrolled in a counsellor training program.
A few years later, after some initial training, I found a position with Coast Care Counsellors and then the Cottage Counselling Centre in Sydney. On completion of more training, I worked as an intern school counsellor and with students at a tertiary college. Currently, along with my Coast Care Counsellor practice, I work with Hills Street Counselling and Psychology.
Though my work can be challenging, I enjoy making a difference in people’s lives.
In my work with individuals, I aim to provide an empathic, respectful and non-judgmental space, while encouraging understanding and acceptance of self and others. Rather than assuming an expert role, I seek to promote a sense of self-empowerment through choice and joint decision making in regards to the style and direction of therapy.
In practice, I draw from a number of treatment approaches in order to address the needs and preferences of each person. The main therapies I use are Family Systems, Attachment, Person Centred, CBT, Mindfulness, and a number of Trauma-based therapies.
I believe it is important to address the whole person in therapy. This often means discussions about health and lifestyle choices or finding meaning and purpose in life. I do not have an agenda to push, but I can provide research-based resources and information or a referral to a health care professional.
